finally human

God gives us life, and he gives us the ability to enjoy it. To be alive, to experience joy, these are gifts from God! These gifts come with no conditions. But what we do with them—how we use the gifts God gives us—will determine whether or not we become, finally, human.

Ecclesiastes 11:5-9; 12:13-14

feeling human

We all struggle with our emotions. Anger, sadness, fear, shame, happiness—our souls roar and foam with these and countless others. There are times when what we feel overwhelms us! Maybe you think you’d be better off not feeling. If so, you’re not alone. But hear this: *not* feeling will make you less like Jesus.

Ecclesiastes 7:1-6

choosing to be human

The power of the gospel is to transform us to become more like Christ. This transformation begins with our decision to submit our will to what Christ would have in our lives. To be fully human, transformation must take place.

Ecclesiastes 6:7-9

only human

It’s not good for human beings to be alone. The more we are isolated from others, the less human we become. Yet, connecting deeply, meaningfully with others is some of the toughest work we can imagine! To make us truly human, God is working to bring together all that pulls us apart.

Ecclesiastes 4:7-12

Becoming human

What makes a human being *truly* human? We all have human bodies, human minds, human souls, but that’s just our human equipment, so to speak, what we start with. What we *become*—what we *do* with that equipment—is the result of God’s work in us.

Ecclesiastes 3:16-22
